Everything about Linux / Unix hosting

What is Linux / Unix hosting?
This means that accommodation is provided on Linux / Unix operating systems platforms. It isn  'a lot of difference between these two types of operating systems because Linux / Unix is an improved version of Linux / Unix operating system. Just When applying for Web hosting for business Web hosting, which is based on the Linux operating system, it does not matter what you use on your computer because it is commensurable with any system of exploitation.

Usability
A few years ago, the Linux operating system to be used only available to professionals, and if you have not been an experienced user you had no future with this system Operating. Over the past two years, the situation has changed. Suppliers have been doing their best so that users  'administer Web sites more comfortable and easier. In case you  're just a beginner you ' will find friendly signs that include the Web interface. And if you are an advanced user, you can manage your site through shells.
Reliability
  Experts say Unix-based platform is one of the most reliable, but those that depend mainly on the maintenance things professionalism. Thus, the quality and stability of Linux-based Web hosting won \ 'sudden depend on some system bugs and the operating system itself ensures consistency of your website on the reliability of operation.
Functionality
In this field, Linux is different from most other popular platforms. It can handle a large number of processes occurring at the same time. This gives you the opportunity to get more from the server.
What scripting languages are available for Unix?
Unix supports a wide range of applications and, more than any other operating system. Most applications of this nature include C, C + +, Shell, Perl, TCL, Python, Java and PHP.

What databases not support Unix?
databases are available for Unix mSQL and MySQL. The one you choose will depend on your own needs and your host provider \ 'offer. This is important for you to review when choosing a hosting company.
Cost
Linux Operating System was developed by Linus Torvalds as an alternative to other operating systems and is enhanced by many specialists worldwide. Most of its versions are free. That fact makes Linux hosting much cheaper than all the others. As with Linux versions they are sometimes called Linux distributions. The most popular are distributions RedHat and Mandrake. Who are easy to install have a lot of different utilities and suitable for all types of web hosting.
Why Linux / Unix hosting?
Thus, as mentioned before using this platform is cheaper and more convenient than the others. All existing scripts, like PHP function when using the best Linux-based Web hosting. Linux / Unix improvement opportunities based Web hosting increase when using Shell and Telnet. The Linux / Unix-based platform is probably the most stable and reliable.

When and Why Should you Secure Multiple Domains

There are many different reasons for purchasing multiple domain names, and each reason has its own set of benefits and uses.

I’ve written quite extensively before about how to select the best domain name for your business. It is also a good idea to secure alternate versions of your primary domain name as a means to prevent competitors from trying to squeeze in on your name and branding efforts. Buying multiple domain names is a great strategy that can be used to capture additional type-in traffic, secure other branding avenues you may wish to pursue, or simply to prevent your competitors from securing them.

Type-In Traffic

Many URLs are purchased simply to capture type in traffic. Type-in traffic is when someone goes to the address bar of their web browser and types in keywords.com instead of performing a keyword search on a search engine. Securing domain names with a fair amount of type-in traffic can be a great boost to sales. If you sell bean bags, your main URL might be BarrysBeanBags.com. To capture potential type-in traffic you might also secure and redirect the following:

    * KidsBeanBags .com
    * BeanBagChairs .com
    * BeanBagFurnture .com

Misspellings

It is always a good idea to secure potential misspellings of your domain name. I recently did a radio interview and at the end of the interview I provided my domain name. Unfortunately I did not take the time to actually spell it out. Upon realizing my error, I immediately went out and purchased multiple spellings of my URL to redirect to my main site.

    * PolPositionMarketing .com
    * PullPositionMarketing .com
    * PollPositionMarketing .com

This allowed me to capture all traffic from any listeners that may have had a different spelling of my site in mind, which increased my visitor rate from those who listened to the broadcast substantially.

Along with misspellings you should also consider purchasing plural and/or singular versions of your domain.

YourDomainSucks .com

If you are in a highly visible industry you might want to consider getting yourdomainsucks.com. Several years ago someone put up an anti AOL website at aolsucks.com (You can see a version of this at http://web.archive.org/web/19980111060209/http://www.aolsucks.com/).

Who might do such a thing? A disgruntled x-employee, a customer who had a bad experience or even a former spouse or partner. Setting up and hosting a website is relatively easy, and often bad press travels a lot further with a little effort than good press with a lot of effort.

There are some significant drawbacks from trying to capture all negative versions of your domain name. You’ll have to grab all hyphenated, non-hyphenated, plural, and misspelled variations. That can be quite a bit. Take that even a step further, you’ll want to buy the .net, .org, .info, .biz and .us (or your country code) variations. Don’t forget YourDomainSux.com or YourDomainReallySucks either.

Is it worth trying to get all those variations? You’ll have to decide. For some “any press is good press.” For others, not so much. In any case, someone registering a “sucks” version of your domain name is likely to create a legal battle that perhaps neither side wants to engage in.

Hyphenated Versions

I mentioned above that you should not purchase a hyphenated URL for your main site. For marketing purposes, however, there are sometimes legitimate reasons to do so. My business owns PolePositionMarketing.com and Pole-Position-Marketing.com. I purchased the hyphenated version simply to prevent a competitor from securing it and stealing my branding. I also have the option of using the hyphenated versions for other marketing efforts, but I don’t recommend doing so unless you are fully aware of the potential ramifications.

Use Proper Redirects

When setting up multiple domains such as those mentioned above, it’s important that you set up each one properly. Setting up domains improperly can lead to duplicate site/content penalties on the search engines which will ultimately be bad for business.

The best method of setting up multiple URLs is to set up a 301 permanent redirect. The 301 redirect tells the search engine that the URL it is trying to access has been permanently moved to a new location, presumably your main URL. The cool thing is that when a visitor types in the redirecting URL they are automatically flipped to your main site.

Many websites employ on-page JavaScript or meta refresh redirects, or even worse, framed pages pulling in the main site. These methods are effective from the user standpoint but not from the search engine standpoint. The 301 redirect is generally the safest method of redirecting users.

To set-up a 301 redirect you’ll want to talk with your web host, as different servers require different methods if implementation. When redirecting multiple URLs there is a neat little trick that saves hosting fees that you’ll want to use.

   1. Take one of the redirecting URLs and host it on the cheap. This is the URL that will be set up with the 301 redirect to your main URL.
   2. Take all your other URLs and park them to point to the URL above.

With this method, you pay for only one additional hosting account ($5 at the most) and all your URLs will automatically flip the visitor and the search engines to your main URL.

In marketing, every little bit can help. Even if a redirected domain name only results in one additional sale every few months, it may not be long until that one sale is a significant one. Whenever you think of a possible domain name that might be used to drive traffic away from your site, go grab it right away. If the domain is already purchased I recommend keeping an eye on it in case the owner forgets to renew it, in which case you can buy and hold on to it for your own benefit.

Easy Use ASP Hosting

ASP stands for Active Server Pages. It is a technology that enables users to design and creative interactive pages for their websites, using something called “server-side scripting”. What do we mean by interactive? Forms, in-site search engines, blogs, user forums, newsletters, calendars, WhoIs searches, web-based email, polls, surveys, hit counters and more.

Best of all, with ASP, no longer do webmasters have to concern themselves with what browser a visitor to their site is using. With ASP hosting, your website will appear identically on all computers, on all browsers, a claim that HTML simply cannot make.

Anytime a browser requests a webpage that has the .asp extension where the more familiar .htm or .html would be, the hosting provider’s web server interprets any ASP scripts in the program first and foremost, before delivering any HTML info to the browser. This is why you cannot simply run ASP websites with just any hosting company. The hosting company you choose must have servers that support ASP, or else the ASP scripts you use will be rendered useless.

When examining web hosting companies to find one that supports ASP, you must look specifically for ASP support. Do not simply assume that because a hosting company supports “most web-based scripts, from CGI to Perl” that it supports ASP. If it doesn’t say so in an obvious place on the sales site, go to the hosting company’s FAQ and look for ASP. And since most FAQs are searchable, this shouldn’t be difficult to do. If you’re really enamored with a particular hosting company (or their current promotion) but can find no information on ASP support, consider contacting them via email, telephone, or web chat to find out. It’s possible that they do support ASP and just have a lousy sales site (which may be an indicator of an altogether different sort).

Microsoft brought ASP to the world, and as such provides the platform - Windows - on which ASP generally works best. In order to play around with ASP scripts on your web pages, you’ll have to download and install onto your system an ASP server, like Microsoft’s Internet Information Services (IIS) or Microsoft’s Personal Web Server (PWS) -- one or both of which is included with most Windows packages for no extra charge. If you use Windows on your machine and have never encountered IIS or PWS, chances are it’s because you have to “Add” the program to your hard drive using the Windows software CD-ROM or through your control panel, since it’s often not included as part of the “Basic Install”.

Incidentally, Windows ME and Windows XP Home Edition are lacking in support for ASP scripts. But we’re willing to bet the forthcoming Windows Vista probably does.

For those webmasters on a PC that isn’t Windows-based, all hope is not lost. Sun Microsystems has developed a program called Chili!Soft ASP that allows other servers -- such as Red Hat, Apache, and Secure Server -- and other operating systems -- such as Linux, Solaris, and AIX -- to support ASP hosting.

Writing and using ASP scripts is easy too -- at least it’s no harder than HTML, with all commands occurring between “<%” and “%>;” instead of “<” and “>”. Not so big a difference, is there? And you can find an abundance of software tools all over the web (many for free) that helps even the greenest novice create interactive web pages rife with ASP.

ASP is such a versatile language that more and more hosting companies are finding themselves compelled to add ASP support to their hosting packages just to remain competitive. This, of course, is only to your advantage as you can comparison shop around for the best ASP hosting offerings right alongside all the other features you’re looking for.

    Web site hosting MySQL PHP

    To create a dynamic and comprehensive web sites web site hosting, Mysql, and PHP all those three work together. In fact a good web hosting company should have PHP and MySQL.

    Always keep in your mind that, in web site hosting, MySQL and PHP are very essential. Web hosting on its own is as basic as it gets nothing much more than somewhere to host your web sites creation, which may be the adding bonus of email account or web site builder software creator.

    At the time of deeper into the more professional side of the online marketing then you can discover the link between PHP and MYSQL, which is used to create the dynamic web sites. The dynamic means, the web sites that have otp in forms, or membership sites that require more advance more advanced scripting and the ability to store data for immediate retrievals.

    Always keep in your mind that having a web hosting, the PHP and MySQL should be compatible with web hosting. MySQL and PHP will give the web site creator a massive range of flexibility for achieving on their web sites.

    You know that PHP comes in difficult version as the type of web hosting available. If you want to use all package, you have to purchasing the entire package. Otherwise you can face many problems. On the other hand you can put together a bespoke hosting package which can be aware of the version of PHP and check the hosting package support this. You have to check all packages before purchasing.

    Paid vs. Free Web Hosting

    It really depends on what your needs are and what you are trying to accomplish. There are advantages and disadvantages for both paid and free web hosting.

    Free Web Hosting
    Advantages:
    - The most obvious benefit is that it's free.
    - You can use your free web space to practice programming. Not many, but some free web hosting plans support a programming language such as PHP, ASP, CGI/Perl, Coldfusion or JSP.
    - A free web hosting plan is great for creating a small personal website.

    Disadvantages:
    - A bunch of free web hosts place their banner and text ads on your website.
    - With a large number of free hosts, your website is placed in a sub-domain or a folder (www.yourwebsite.freehosting.com or www.freehosting.com/yourwebsite) which sometimes results in poor search engine rankings.
    - Because they are offering free hosting, the majority of free web hosts can not afford to offer 24/7 or any support.
    - Very few free web hosts offer a control panel with their plans.
    - Another flaw with free web hosts is many don't allow FTP access which is an obstacle if you have many files to upload.
    - Free web hosting plans don't offer much disk space or data transfer. This could be a problem if you have a lot of large files or if your website generates a lot of traffic.

    Paid Web Hosting

    Advantages:
    - With paid hosting, you will now have any unwanted text or banner ads placed on your website.
    - Your website will not be placed in a sub-domain or folder. You will have your own domain name (yourwebsite.com) which will not only result in better search engine rankings, it also looks more professional.
    - Most paid web hosts offer 24/7 support.
    - A lot of paid web hosting plans offer a control panel such as cPanel, Vdeck, Plesk or Ensim which offer features like web stats, the ability to password protect directories, and the ability to create web based email accounts.
    - Most paid web hosts offer FTP access.
    - The majority of paid web hosting plans support a couple programming languages such as PHP, ASP, CGI/Perl, Coldfusion and JSP.
    - With the more disk space and data transfer you get with paid hosting, you can add more files to your website and it can handle more traffic.
    Disadvantages:
    - The only disadvantage here is that it's not free.

    What You Must Know When Choosing A Website Host

    One of the most overlooked aspects of Internet marketing is the host. Your host is like your foundation, and if you have a weak foundation, your Website will crumble around you!

    If you choose the wrong host, someday you may find that all of your hard work and Website traffic is lost forever.

    A host is a server which provides a home for your website on the World Wide Web. Just as your computer contains all your files, so a host contains all the files needed to run your website. Why can't you just keep all those files on your own computer? Because that would mean users would have to connect directly to your computer to see your website. Not a good idea-it wouldn't be secure and it would make your machine run like a tired snail. With a host, you can simply upload everything you need to the server and your users can then connect there to see your site. It lets the site run faster and allows it to have all the security and extras it needs.

    Selecting a host is the first important step towards building your Internet business.

    Hosting services and companies vary from totally free, shared servers to large-scale dedicated machines. You'll have to decide which is right for you and your business. To help you make that decision, I have listed the advantages and disadvantages of each kind of host:

    Free Servers - While these hosts may be free, you will be at a severe disadvantage and many times have no control over advertising done on your site.

    In many cases you may not be allowed to use your own domain name, which could have a negative impact on your Website traffic.

    Cheap Web Hosting - This is the next step up from free hosting, but again it has some major disadvantages.

    While you can select your own domain name, you will have limited bandwidth and disk space.

    If you are on a shoestring budget, then this should be a temporary solution until you can afford a better host.

    Mid-Priced Web Hosting-Shared Servers -

    This is most likely your best bet as you will be allowed to have a custom domain name, and the bandwidth and disk space are significantly higher than with cheap Website hosting.

    The only major disadvantage is that you will be sharing a server with other Webmasters.

    This is not usually a problem, however.

    Dedicated Servers -

    This is the best form of hosting you can get. You will not be sharing a server with other Webmasters, and you will have almost unlimited bandwidth and disk space.

    The only disadvantage is the cost factor, as it can be very expensive to have your own dedicated server.

    Your choice of host will depend on how much money you have available at the beginning and how much you plan to grow in the future. In my opinion, for commercial sites, free hosting is a waste of time. Your users are going to get blasted with annoying pop-ups every time they surf to your page, it's going to be impossible to get a decent position in a search engine, and you don't even get a real business URL. No one's going to remember your Web address if they have to type www.freehosting.com/my_site. But it is possible to choose a cheap host at the beginning and move up as your business begins to bring in money.
